Best Produce Storing Practices

I love to store my produce in plastic bags and I think everyone should! Are you surprised to hear this from me, an ecologically motivated person? We are big produce-eaters and quality is important to us. The produce in the Talley Farms Boxes is super fresh and, if stored correctly, will last weeks in your refrigerator (unless you eat it first, of course!)

I have personally tested many produce bags: biodegradable, cloth, burlap, “organic”-looking, and the cutest bags you’ve ever seen. Different sizes and shapes, you name it. I’ve brought home from the farm double the broccoli, lettuce, and bell peppers and tested the same quality and same lot side by side in the refrigerator, labeled with dates. Nothing keeps produce fresher in your refrigerator than regular plastic bags, zip locks, or twist ties.

I reuse my plastic bags, especially the zip locks. I turn them inside out, wash them with soap, and then dry them before turning them outside in and storing them. Labeling the bags with a date using masking tape helps me keep my produce rotated.
