To ensure we stay competitive with our pricing and quality, I’ll often do a grocery store comparison of the items in the Original Sized box and what the cost would look like if I bought the same exact items at my local, middle of the ground grocery store.
Keep in mind, most of the produce in the grocery store is coming from Mexico; it’s not guaranteed to be California grown, let alone US grown. It begins by traveling on a truck to a distributor, then sits in a warehouse to be consolidated, and finally makes its way on another truck to deliver to our local grocery stores, which may take up to a week or so. Here is an itemized cost list from last week’s box, if purchased at a local grocery store:

Keep in mind, the base price of our Original Box is just $35.
We are able to keep our box price competitive because we are working directly with the growers we source from, rather than going through a distributor or wholesaler. I oversee procurement for the box items, so I’m coordinating multiple trucks to pick up produce across the state throughout the week, ensuring they deliver to our cooler in a timely manner. Also, by growing many items on our own property, I can coordinate with our harvest crews to go in multiple times a week, so that the product coming in is as fresh as possible.
