Eat The Rainbow

Have you ever wondered if you’re getting all the nutrients your body needs for optimal health? Consuming a spectrum of colorful fruits and vegetables throughout the week can help ensure you are meeting your multivitamin needs. Each color of the rainbow offers its own superpower to nourish your body and protect against chronic diseases. The color makes all the difference, and we need them all to work our best, like a team of Marvel’s Avengers.

Red’s superpower is heart health. Strawberries, tomatoes, and red peppers are red because they are rich in the antioxidant known as lycopene. This fighter keeps our blood and circulatory system in peak condition to pump blood and oxygen efficiently throughout our body.

Orange produce protects our eyes. Sweet potatoes, carrots, oranges and peaches contain high amounts of beta-carotene which neutralizes free radicals in our eyes from sun damage.

Yellow, along with orange, packs a punch to our immune system. Lemons, mangos, yellow squash, corn, pineapple, cantaloupe, peaches and nectarines are all loaded with Vitamin C and B vitamins to guard our bodies against pathogens and viruses.

Green keeps our bones and muscles in tip top shape. Rich in lutein, calcium, and vitamin K, green foods give our bodies the foundational support it needs to build our skeletal system as strong as Popeye’s.

Blue and purple work in tandem to keep your mind sharp. Anthocyanins and polyphenols that give blueberries, blackberries, figs, grapes, and eggplant their distinct color, work diligently in our bodies to fight free radicals. Primarily in the brain, their superpower promotes healthy aging and cognitive function.

By including a variety of colors in your diet, you can be confident that you’re giving your body the best weapons against disease and aging. The more color and variety you can consume on a daily basis, the better! Thankfully in the summer this comes easy with the abundance of fresh produce at our fingertips. You should find every color of the rainbow waiting for you in your next Talley Farms Box.
